Full truckload vs
less than truckload

Size (of your shipment) matters when it comes to full truckload (FTL) and less than truckload (LTL).

Full truckload is exactly what it sounds like, an entire 53′ truck is filled with up to 45,000 lbs of freight from a single shipper.  Less than truckload is when a shipper only needs to partially fill a truck.

Do you need FTL or LTL?

Moving freight looks different for every organization

Whether you require full truckload (FTL) or less than truckload (LTL) depends on the sizes of your shipments. If your shipment won’t fill a 53’ van, you have a few options. You can ship LTL loads as needed, or schedule shipments once you have enough freight for FTL. This decision will come down to your schedule, costs, organizational goals and requirements. Be aware, some carriers only move FTL loads, while others only LTL. Some carriers offer both services, and with all options, capacity availability and costs vary.
